A Study of Jeff Hawkins’ Brain Simulation Software

چکیده
Mother Nature is able to accomplish certain tasks through the simplest of her creatures that computer science has yet to duplicate. Many researchers believe the key to realizing the full potential of computing machines lies in their ability to leverage biological techniques for solving problems. Jeff Hawkins, an electrical engineer and neuroscience researcher, and also the founder of the Palm Pilot, believes he has discovered how the brain works, which he theorizes is the key to developing intelligent machines. In this paper we examine his theories and how he is attempting to translate them into computer code.

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Water Transportation through Aquaporin-4 in Rat Brain Cells
This paper investigates the mechanism of water transportation through aquaporin-4(AQP4) of ratbrain cells by means of molecular dynamics simulation with CHARMM software. The AQP4 wasembedded into a bilayer made of Dimystroilphosphatylcholine (DMPC). The results illustrate thatwater molecules move through AQP4's channel with change of orientation of oxygen of eachwater molecule.

It naturally makes researchers bristle when a new guy comes along and makes grand pronouncements that everyone else has missed the big idea. Stephan Wolfram encountered some of that with his 1192 page tome, “A New Kind of Science” where he argued that cellular automata do much better at simulating complex phenomena than more sophisticated models. It helps things not a bit when the new guy struc...

Open access, freely available online I s Michael Moore liberal America's Rush Limbaugh? If so, is he fi lling a much needed, or a much lamented, gap in turning issues that are really cast in pastel shades into Day-Glo relief? In this hale monograph, Jeff Hawkins (rendered by Sandra Blakeslee) plays exactly this role for theoretical neuroscience. As a pastel practitioner myself, but furtively sh...
متن کاملHawkins on intelligence: Fascination and frustration
I find On Intelligence to be both fascinating and frustrating. Fascinating in that it hints at a potentially unifying view (the memory-prediction model) of brain structure and function; and frustrating in that it is very sketchy and in that it also makes claims about AI and conscious experience that seem to me to be questionable. I will mostly leave the neural aspects to other reviewers, focusi...
